How Often Should a Business Website Be Updated?

There is no single calendar rule. The useful schedule depends on the platform, security needs and how often the business changes.

Update business facts whenever they change

Services, prices, hours, service areas, team information, and contact details should be corrected as soon as they become inaccurate. A potential customer should not have to confirm basic facts by phone. Review the pages that produce inquiries regularly and remove offers the business no longer provides.

Maintain the parts visitors cannot see

Website software, plugins, certificates, backups, forms, and security access need a separate maintenance routine. The right schedule depends on the platform and how much the business relies on its site. A content update and a software update are different tasks and should be tested differently.

Use a short recurring review

Open the website on a phone, follow the path to contact, submit a test inquiry, check recent backups, and inspect important pages for broken links or layout changes. Record what was checked and what needs follow-up. This is more useful than posting a new article just to make the site look active.

Does Google require a new post every week?

No. Publish when you have something accurate and useful to say, and keep existing pages current.

Review what customers actually see

A useful review starts on a phone. Check the service descriptions, prices or quote language, service area, contact details, and the steps in the inquiry form. If customers keep asking the same question by phone, add a clear answer where they look first. When a service changes, update all relevant pages rather than only the homepage.

Keep a record of changes

Write down when backups were tested, when software changed, and whether a form test reached the right inbox. Keep domain and hosting access under business control. If someone else manages the website, agree on who notices warnings, who approves changes, and how urgent requests are handled. That record makes routine work easier and a repair less chaotic.
